India head coach Amol Muzumdar lauded captain Harmanpreet Kaur after she became the first cricketer in international cricket, across both men’s and women’s games, to captain her country in 150 T20I matches.
Harmanpreet reached the landmark during India’s 2026 Women’s Asia Cup Group A match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday, further strengthening her standing as one of the leading figures in the shortest format.
“One thing I have been told is that it is the 150th T20 international for Harman as a captain, the most by anybody. It’s the most by anybody, whether it is men’s cricket or women’s cricket. Well done, Harman. Congrats,” Muzumdar said in a video shared on the BCCI’s social media channels.
At 37, Harmanpreet is well clear of her international peers on the captaincy list. Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu is second with 121 T20Is as captain, followed by Rwanda’s Marie Bimenyimana with 101.
Among men’s captains, Namibia’s Gerhard Erasmus leads with 91 matches, followed by Rwanda’s Cletus Rubagumya with 90 and Pakistan’s Babar Azam with 85. Former India captain MS Dhoni holds the Indian men’s record with 72 T20Is as skipper.
During her captaincy tenure, Harmanpreet has guided India to 86 T20I victories against 57 defeats, giving her a win percentage of more than 60 per cent.
She has also led India to three Women’s Asia Cup titles, in 2012, 2016 and 2022, besides captaining the side to a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and a gold at the Asian Games.
The right-handed batter also led India to the runners-up finish at the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia before captaining the team to the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup title on home soil.
“Great achievement. But the key is to keep enjoying yourself on the field, and that is key. I try to keep up with that,” Harmanpreet said at the toss when asked about leading India for the 150th time in T20Is.
