Television actress Erica Fernandes is set to step into the role of a doctor in the upcoming military-medical series ‘108 Base Hospital – Uri’, which is scheduled to premiere on Independence Day.
Speaking about the project, the actress said it was the portrayal of strong and independent women that immediately drew her to the show.
“108 is a military-medical-based show. What connected me to it was the strength of the women in the story. We are portraying independent and strong women, and I feel today’s generation can relate to these characters because women are becoming increasingly independent and confident,” Erica told IANS.
The actress, known for shows such as ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’ and ‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’, plays Dr Major Naina. She said considerable preparation went into making her portrayal of a medical professional authentic.
Erica undertook extensive research into doctors and emergency medical professionals, studying their body language, mannerisms, working methods and medical procedures. She spent nearly a month watching medical shows and videos as part of her preparation.
“I did a lot of research. In fact, everyone on our set calls me ‘Dr. Fernandes’ because I became so involved in the character,” she said.
She added that she watched videos on medical procedures and treatments and closely observed the way doctors and surgeons conduct themselves, hoping the preparation would reflect on screen.
The series also stars Gashmeer Mahajani as Dr Major Aniruddh, Nikkhil Khurana as Major Sameer Dixit, Ayoshi Talukdar as Dr Captain Mili Banerjee, Hiten Tejwani as Dr Col Suryakant Thakur and Smita Bansal as Lt Col Principal Matron Kavita Jha.
‘108 Base Hospital – Uri’ will premiere on August 15 and will stream on JioHotstar, while also airing on COLORS on Saturdays and Sundays.
