Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla on Saturday criticised former Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring over his recent remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asking him to first explain his own record on tackling the drug menace during his ministerial tenure.
Sampla said pharmaceutical drugs were manufactured in factories in Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh and were also being sold openly. He challenged Warring to clarify what steps the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh had taken to curb the drug problem in the state.
He said the Congress had repeatedly faced rejection from voters, yet its leaders continued to question Amit Shah’s commitment. According to Sampla, Warring should examine his own party’s performance before raising questions about others.
Highlighting Amit Shah’s record, Sampla said Article 370 was abrogated in Jammu and Kashmir under his leadership, Naxalism was effectively tackled, and major action was taken against narco-terror networks.
Sampla further said that Amit Shah understood the concerns and suffering of Punjab’s people. He pointed out that the Union Home Minister had committed to eradicating drugs not only from Punjab but from the entire country by December 31, 2029.
For the BJP, Sampla said, the fight against drugs was not a political issue but a mission to protect Punjab’s youth and safeguard the state’s future.
