Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced a new chapter in his personal life by sharing photographs of himself with senior journalist Nidhi Razdan on social media.
Posting the pictures on X, Omar wrote, “A new journey began yesterday.”
Razdan responded to his post, saying, “It’s done bro @OmarAbdullah.”
The announcement follows the Supreme Court’s dissolution of Omar Abdullah’s marriage to Payal by mutual consent on July 31, 2026, clearing the legal way for him to begin a new relationship.
A bench comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe dissolved the marriage by exercising its extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution after the couple reached a mediated settlement.
Omar and Payal married on September 1, 1994, and had been living separately since 2009. They have two sons, Zahir and Zamir.
Omar’s earlier divorce petitions, filed on grounds of cruelty and desertion, were dismissed by a family court in 2016. The Delhi High Court upheld that decision in December 2023.
Following court-directed mediation, both parties agreed to separate amicably. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal informed the Supreme Court that all pending disputes had been settled and related litigation would be withdrawn.
Razdan, 49, is a senior journalist and former executive editor of NDTV. A Kashmiri Pandit, she is the daughter of senior journalist Maharaj Krishan Razdan and originally belongs to Budgam district in central Kashmir.
She studied at Apeejay School in Sheikh Sarai, New Delhi, graduated from Lady Shri Ram College and subsequently completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Radio and TV Journalism at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi, during 1998-99.
