All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee Chairman and senior political leader Jagmohan Singh Raina has launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC) leadership, questioning the party’s internal functioning, leadership decisions and growing dissatisfaction among its senior leaders.
Raina said the National Conference had repeatedly witnessed internal differences, with several prominent leaders distancing themselves from the party despite its electoral victories. Referring to Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, he said differences had emerged over the party’s failure to fulfil its promises.
He also recalled the departure of senior leaders, including Syed Akhoon and Advocate Shafi, questioning why experienced political figures had repeatedly felt compelled to leave the party.
Highlighting Syed Akhoon’s contribution during the difficult years of militancy, Raina said that while several NC leaders had left Jammu and Kashmir during that period, Akhoon continued to manage the party’s activities in Kashmir despite challenging circumstances.
Commenting on recent organisational developments, Raina questioned the reported dissatisfaction of senior leader Mubarak Gul, who reportedly declined the post of General Secretary. He said such developments raised serious questions about the party’s leadership style and internal democracy.
Revisiting the National Conference’s historical political differences, Raina also referred to leaders such as Maulana Masoodi, Sufi Akbar and Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, besides the political split during Ghulam Mohammad Shah’s tenure as Chief Minister.
Raina said continuous political confrontations and internal disputes adversely affected development, employment opportunities and the future of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth. He urged political leadership to prioritise local employment, strengthen traditional economic sectors and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for young people.
Expressing concern over regional divisions, including the Jammu-versus-Kashmir narrative and the earlier Jammu and Kashmir-versus-Ladakh divide, he said such narratives served no public interest and only weakened regional unity.
Raina appealed to the public to understand the political situation objectively and assess developments in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir. He also urged the National Conference leadership to step back from political confrontations and prioritise the future of the younger generation.
Emphasising that the interests, aspirations and employment opportunities of young people should not become casualties of political disputes, he appealed to political leaders across party lines to rise above personal and political differences.
He called for collective efforts towards peace, stability, unity and development to ensure a secure and prosperous future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
