New Delhi, October 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to introduce two major initiatives, including automatic settlement of eligible inoperative provident fund accounts with balances of up to Rs 1,000 and delivery of services through WhatsApp, as part of its 74th Foundation Day celebrations on Sunday.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will formally launch the initiatives at the event, which will mark another step in EPFO’s efforts to improve service delivery and make provident fund-related services more accessible to subscribers.

According to an official statement, the minister will also review exhibition stalls showcasing the organisation’s initiatives and release a series of publications highlighting EPFO’s work in knowledge creation, institutional learning, legal awareness and compassionate governance.

The celebrations will also feature the presentation of the ‘Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2026′ by Mandaviya. The awards will recognise outstanding contributions by Regional Offices, Zonal Offices, individual officers and employees of the organisation.

The Foundation Day event will be attended by senior officials of the Labour and Employment Ministry, members of the Central Board of Trustees, EPFO officers and employees, employers, workers and other stakeholders.

The organisation said the occasion would reaffirm its commitment to ensuring that the years of workers’ labour translate into financial security, dignity and peace of mind for them and their families.

EPFO membership expands significantly

India’s social protection coverage has expanded substantially in recent years, increasing from 19 per cent in 2015 to 68.4 per cent in 2026, bringing more than one billion people within the social protection framework.

EPFO has also registered significant growth in its contributing membership. The number of contributing members increased from 3.49 crore in 2014-15 to approximately 7.98 crore as of September 16, 2026, representing an addition of around 4.49 crore members.

The organisation’s institutional reach has also expanded, with 7.68 lakh establishments contributing to EPFO as of September 2026.

The growing membership and establishment base underline EPFO’s expanding role in extending social security coverage to eligible workers across the country.

The new initiatives are expected to further strengthen service accessibility and streamline the handling of eligible inoperative accounts.
