Political analyst and Rise & Fall 2 winner Shehzad Poonawalla has said violence has no place in a democracy, reflecting on the physical confrontation that led to fellow contestant Siwet Tomar’s eviction from the reality show.
Asked about the controversy and his dramatic journey on the show, Shehzad said he did not wish to revisit the incident or assign blame. He maintained that he had already forgiven those involved and considered the matter closed.
“I don’t think there is any need for me to offer my perspective on that now. They were evicted because of their actions in the show, and I had already forgiven them at that time. For me, that chapter is closed, and I don’t want to give it any more importance,” he said.
However, he emphasised that disagreements should be settled through dialogue rather than physical force.
“In our democracy and the land of Mahatma Gandhi, violence can never be a solution. We should use words, not violence,” Shehzad said, adding that repeatedly resorting to physical aggression reflected a lack of intellectual and verbal strength.
The remarks come weeks after Siwet was removed from the competition following a physical altercation with Shehzad. The two had initially planned to play the game together, but their relationship deteriorated during the Ultimate Ruler race.
The tension escalated after Siwet questioned Shehzad’s decision-making abilities and Shehzad subsequently confronted him over his interaction with Swara Bhasker, despite his earlier stand that he would not speak to her following her remarks on ‘Jauhar’.
The argument turned physical, with Siwet allegedly grabbing Shehzad by the neck and pushing him down. Shehzad was left injured, and his clothes were torn during the confrontation.
Since physical violence violated the show’s rules, Siwet was evicted. Swara Bhasker and Karan Patel initially objected to the decision, arguing that Shehzad’s provocation had contributed to the escalation. They also walked out alongside Siwet in protest.
