The Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to appear for questioning on Thursday in connection with the October 13 protest and trespassing case at Jantar Mantar.
The two activists have been asked to report to the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden at noon.
Das and Ranka were summoned earlier in October but did not appear. They subsequently sought additional time to join the investigation. The cases relating to the protest were later transferred to the Crime Branch.
The case stems from an incident on October 13, when Das, Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde, along with 11 others, allegedly entered Jantar Mantar, which had been de-notified as the designated protest site. Police detained all those involved.
While Shinde was released on a bail bond, Das and Ranka remained in judicial custody for a week. The group had been protesting against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The two CJP leaders were released from Tihar Jail on October 21 after furnishing personal bonds and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each before Special Executive Magistrate Ritu Raj. Their release followed written undertakings to maintain peace and refrain from calling for protests at Jantar Mantar until the site is legally de-notified.
The SEM accepted the undertakings and observed that bonds under Section 135(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) would be sufficient to secure the measures required to prevent a breach of peace or disturbance of public tranquillity during the inquiry.
The latest summons marks a further step in the police investigation into the protest-related case.
