Indian shooter Jaypal Malviya clinched silver in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Championship on Thursday, securing the country’s first quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Malviya scored 242.2 in the 24-shot final at the Lusail Shooting Complex to finish second. China’s Hu Kai won gold with 243.9, while the Czech Republic’s Jindrich Dubovy claimed bronze with 220.9. The three medalists secured the three Olympic quota places available in the event.
The Indian shooter remained in contention throughout the final, scoring 50.5 in the opening series and reaching 100.0 after the second. Consistent high-10 shots during the elimination rounds helped him stay ahead of the chasing field. He maintained his composure in the closing stages to keep Dubovy behind and secure the silver medal.
India also claimed silver in the women’s 10m air pistol team event earlier in the day. The team of double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, Suruchi Inder Singh and Sainyam combined for 1,738 points, including 61 inner 10s.
Manu led the Indian trio with 583-21x, including a perfect 100 in her fourth series. Suruchi scored 580-24x, while junior world champion Sainyam contributed 575-16x. China won gold with 1,745-65x, and the Republic of Korea took bronze with 1,729-49x.
