Bollywood actor Salman Khan has drawn sharp criticism on social media following the release of his latest song, ‘Teri Sexy Beauty’, from the upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, with several users questioning its suitability for a movie inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.
The track, released in the early hours of November 4, marks Salman’s return to playback singing after 11 years. Featuring Salman and Chitrangda Singh, the song presents the two in a romantic setting, with the actor singing alongside Muskaan and additional vocals by Sajid Khan.
Salman also promoted the release on social media with a playful caption referring to a flight, drinks and his “sexy beauty”.
However, the song’s lyrics and visuals have not gone down well with a section of social media users, who believe its flirtatious tone and references to alcohol are out of place in a film centred on the sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
One X user questioned how lyrics such as “Teri sexy beauty ka fan ban gaya hoon, main do peg pee ke aeroplane ban gaya hoon” could feature in a patriotic film inspired by the Galwan clash. Another criticised the portrayal of a national hero, while some expressed disappointment over what they perceived as changes to the film’s title, narrative and music.
Salman’s singing and the lyrics also became targets of ridicule, with one user describing them as “ChatGPT lyrics”. Another accused the actor of damaging his own legacy. One particularly critical comment urged Salman to retire rather than continue delivering work that, in the user’s view, fell short of his earlier standards.
The song also found supporters, with some fans appreciating its catchy tune and welcoming the actor’s return to singing.
Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, earlier titled Battle of Galwan, is inspired by the June 2020 confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. Twenty Indian Army personnel, including Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, lost their lives in the clash.
Salman plays an Army officer in the film, while Chitrangda Singh portrays his wife.
