New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against India after sustaining a concussion during a training session, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced on Friday.
Conway suffered the injury on Tuesday when he collided with teammate Matt Henry while attempting to take a catch during training at Eden Park. Both players received immediate medical attention and underwent head injury assessments.
While Conway was initially ruled out of the opening ODI, further assessment has now ruled him out of the remaining matches in the series.
Batter Nick Kelly has been called up as Conway’s replacement. Kelly, who was originally selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will join the squad in Wellington on Friday.
Henry, meanwhile, has been cleared of concussion and remains in contention for selection in New Zealand’s playing XI for the second ODI.
Conway’s absence adds to New Zealand’s injury concerns, with batters Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra already ruled out of the five-match series due to hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.
Dale Phillips will replace Kelly in the New Zealand A squad for the final four-day match against India A, which begins on Saturday.
India began the ODI series with a five-wicket victory in Auckland on Wednesday, following their 3-2 win in the preceding T20I series.
The second ODI will be played at Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Saturday.
