Veteran actress Shabana Azmi turned 75 on Friday and marked the milestone with an intimate celebration attended by several friends and colleagues from the film industry.
Ahead of her birthday, Shabana received a creative birthday tribute from actress Vidya Balan and her husband, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, which brought a smile to the veteran actress’s face.
Shabana shared a glimpse of the special gesture on social media. The birthday cake featured an artistic representation of the actress along with the message, “Batwarapan! A talent that is borderless! EST. 1950 STILL GOING STRONG/EST.”
Thanking Vidya and Siddharth for the thoughtful tribute, Shabana wrote, “Thank you so much #Siddharth Roy Kapur and #Vidya Balan for this innovative message. It brought a big smile to my face.”
She also shared glimpses of the celebrations, including a group photograph with several of her actress friends, which she captioned simply, “Pretty women.”
The gathering brought together familiar faces from the film fraternity, including Divya Dutta, Tanvi Azmi, Dia Mirza, Richa Chadha, Vidya Balan and Shahana Goswami.
Filmmaker-producer Boney Kapoor was also present at the celebration. In one of the pictures, he and Shabana were seen enjoying pani puri together.
The veteran actress also reunited with childhood friends during the celebrations. The group joined in a rendition of the iconic song “Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge” from the 1975 cult classic Sholay.
Born on September 18, 1950, Shabana is the daughter of renowned poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi and theatre actress Shaukat Kaifi.
She made her film debut with Shyam Benegal’s Ankur in 1974, a film that became a landmark in her career. Over the decades, she established herself as one of Indian cinema’s acclaimed performers, moving between parallel cinema and mainstream films.
Her notable works include Nishant, Junoon, Arth, Khandhar, Paar, Mandi, Masoom, Shatranj Ke Khilari, Sparsh, Amar Akbar Anthony, Fakira, Godmother and Fire, among several others.
