New Delhi, September 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi Police on Monday arrested Hariram Bansal, owner of the five-storey building that collapsed in the Satya Niketan area, from Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi, hours after a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

Bansal had allegedly gone absconding after the building, which was being operated as a boys’ paying guest (PG) accommodation known as ‘Hostel Daze’, collapsed. Several students were staying in the premises when the incident occurred.

Police said an FIR has been registered at South Campus police station against Bansal and others in connection with the collapse. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Southwest, Amit Goel, confirmed the registration of the case.

Delhi Police had formed 10 teams to trace and apprehend Bansal after the Look Out notice was issued.

Meanwhile, five Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials were suspended with immediate effect following the deadly collapse. The suspended officials are South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, Superintending Engineer Ranvir Singh, Executive Engineer Lalit Kumar Goel, Assistant Engineer Sunil Chauhan and Junior Engineer Ashish Kumar.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the collapse site again on Monday morning to review the rescue and other operations. She said strict action would be taken against officials found responsible for negligence or lapses and had earlier directed action against MCD officials found accountable.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, directions have also been issued for the immediate sealing of illegal five-storey buildings across Delhi as part of measures to prevent similar incidents and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Rescue and search operations continued through the night, with officials saying several people, mostly students, were still feared trapped beneath the debris. Teams continued efforts to locate and rescue those who may be alive.

At least seven people have so far been confirmed dead, while several others are undergoing treatment. An adjacent building also reportedly collapsed, raising further concerns about the structural safety of buildings in the area.

The investigation into the collapse and the responsibility for the tragedy is continuing.
