Actress-singer Hilary Duff has opened up about her complicated relationship with Christmas, saying she loves the festive traditions but prefers to pack away the decorations as soon as January arrives. The singer is celebrating the season with her latest EP, Holiday Things.
Duff shared a series of photographs from the EP’s cover photoshoot on Instagram, describing her enthusiasm for Christmas music, decorations, cosy sweaters, shopping and gingerbread houses.
“Everyone who knows me knows I lovvvve and also have a complicated relationship with Christmas and the holiday season,” she wrote, adding that she enjoys immersing herself in the festive spirit but likes to have everything packed away by January 1.
Encouraging fans to enjoy the release, Duff suggested giving the EP plenty of listening time during the holidays before putting it away until the following year. She also expressed her affection for her fans.
Duff’s connection with Christmas music dates back to 2002, when she released her holiday album Santa Claus Lane. The album featured covers of festive favourites, including Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, Jingle Bell Rock, Wonderful Christmastime, Sleigh Ride and Last Christmas. It also featured guest appearances by Christina Milian, Romeo Miller and Duff’s older sister, Haylie Duff.
Santa Claus Lane reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Top Heatseekers and Top Kid Audio charts and peaked at No. 154 on the Billboard 200.
Duff later achieved greater commercial success with Metamorphosis, which topped the Billboard 200 and earned four-times platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Her subsequent releases included Hilary Duff, Dignity and the compilation album Most Wanted, followed by Breathe In. Breathe Out and Luck… or Something.
With Holiday Things, Duff is once again bringing her music to the festive season, even if her Christmas celebrations come with a firm January 1 deadline.
