President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation on Friday, August 14, on the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day.
According to an official communication issued late on Thursday, the President’s address will be broadcast at 7 p.m. across the national network of Akashvani and telecast on all Doordarshan channels.
The address will be delivered first in Hindi, followed by the English version. Doordarshan will subsequently broadcast translations in regional languages through its regional channels.
Akashvani will also air regional-language versions of the address at 9.30 p.m. on its respective regional networks, enabling listeners across the country to hear the President’s message in their mother tongues.
The President’s Independence Day-eve address is a longstanding national tradition and precedes the main Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The annual address generally reflects on the country’s achievements, challenges and future aspirations while remembering the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.
This year’s address assumes added significance as India marks its 80th Independence Day, commemorating eight decades of independence and the country’s journey since 1947.
Officials said arrangements had been made to ensure the widest possible reach of the address, with Doordarshan’s terrestrial and satellite channels carrying the broadcast along with digital platforms.
The President’s address will precede Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s traditional Independence Day speech from the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15.
