Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters has claimed that no commercial vessel or tanker can safely pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz without permission and supervision from Iranian armed forces.
A spokesperson for the headquarters dismissed US claims that shipping was continuing normally through the waterway, calling them “lies and falsehoods”, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported.
The spokesperson said the Strait of Hormuz remained under the “complete management and control” of Iran and asserted that commercial ships and tankers would require clearance from Iranian forces to transit safely.
The statement came amid an escalating dispute between Tehran and Washington over control of the strategic waterway.
Iranian Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Aragchi separately accused the United States of repeatedly miscalculating its approach towards Iran, citing what he described as intelligence failures.
“The US has long miscalculated due to intelligence failures. Case in point: the war on Iran. Now, an even bigger miscalculation on the Strait of Hormuz. Worse than fake news is fake intelligence. Be careful,” Aragchi said in a post on X.
US President Donald Trump had claimed on Wednesday that Washington had “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz and suggested that the United States intended to maintain that position.
“The USA has total control over the Strait of Hormuz. I think we will keep it!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump also described the US naval blockade as a “wall of steel” and said Iran had no ability to challenge it.
The US President did not provide operational details of the reported blockade, including its expected duration or the conditions under which it might end.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, is critical to global energy and commercial shipping.
