Actor, producer and parliamentarian Kamal Haasan’s production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, on Friday announced that his upcoming film with director S U Arun Kumar has been titled ‘Sandiyar’.
The title has drawn attention as it is the same name Kamal Haasan had originally chosen for his 2004 film ‘Virumaandi’. The title had triggered controversy at the time, with certain groups objecting to its use and demanding that it be changed. Following deliberations, the actor had renamed the film ‘Virumaandi’.
Twenty-two years later, Kamal Haasan has revived the title for his new project with Arun Kumar. The announcement was made on the production house’s X account ahead of the actor’s birthday on Saturday.
The makers also released a poster featuring Kamal Haasan in an intense look, holding a revolver and leaning through a car window. Blood marks on the vehicle’s door suggest a grim action-thriller setting.
The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander, while National Award-winning stunt choreographers Anbariv will handle the action sequences. Sunil KS is the cinematographer, C S Balachander is in charge of production design, and Amritha Ram is designing the costumes.
Kamal Haasan and R Mahendran are producing the film, with S Disney serving as co-producer.
