A Supreme Court lawyer has approached Delhi Police seeking registration of an FIR against All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora over alleged remarks linking temple priests to sexual offences against women.
In a complaint submitted to the Station House Officer of the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi district, advocate-on-record Amita Sachdeva sought action under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and other applicable legal provisions.
Sachdeva alleged that a video featuring Bora had circulated widely on social media and been reported by news outlets. According to the complaint, Bora made generalised statements attributing sexual offences against women to temple priests.
In the video, Bora is purportedly heard saying in Hindi that Brahmin women are unsafe even while walking on the streets and that sexual assaults also take place inside temples, allegedly involving priests. She referred to incidents in Unnao and Kathua. The video also carries an overlay stating: “PUJARI RAPES WOMEN INSIDE TEMPLES.”
The complainant argued that the remarks amounted to a blanket attribution of criminal conduct to an entire category of people and could promote enmity, hatred or ill-will between different groups.
“Sexual offences are criminal acts that must be investigated and prosecuted strictly under the law wherever they occur,” the complaint stated, while maintaining that generalised allegations of this nature could disturb public harmony.
Sachdeva further claimed that the wide electronic circulation of the video had generated public reaction and raised concerns over public tranquillity. She said her complaint was intended to raise a law-and-order issue and was not being made on behalf of any particular community.
The lawyer has sought an FIR against Bora and any other persons whose involvement may emerge during the investigation. She has also called for a probe into the context and intent of the remarks, electronic records, circulation of the video and its alleged impact on public order.
The complaint represents a request for police action; no FIR or finding of wrongdoing against Bora was established in the information provided.
