English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has shared a behind-the-scenes video from the recording of ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’, his song for Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘King’, revealing how the collaboration came about.
On Tuesday, Sheeran shared a joint Instagram post with Shah Rukh Khan. The video shows him singing in Hindi alongside music composer Jigar Saraiya of the duo Sachin-Jigar. Sheeran has sung the track with Arijit Singh.
Recalling the collaboration, Sheeran said Shah Rukh had told him during their first meeting that he should make a song for his next film, which would also mark his Bollywood debut. The two stayed in touch over the years and developed a close bond.
Sheeran said that during his recent India visit, he went to Shah Rukh’s house to ask him to make a cameo in the music video for ‘Sapphire’, featuring Arijit Singh. It was there that Shah Rukh introduced him to Sachin-Jigar, after which Sheeran wrote and recorded his verse for ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’ that very night.
In his Instagram caption, Sheeran wrote, “When I first met Shah Rukh, he said I must make a song to be in his next movie and also be my first Bollywood song”.
He added, “We’ve gotten to know each other over the years and I love him. Last time I was in India I went to his house to get him to shoot a cameo in the Sapphire music video for me and @arijitsingh. He introduced me to @sachinjigar that day and I wrote and recorded my verse for Tu Mil Jaaye for his movie King that night. I love that Arijit is singing on it with me too, all my favourite people on one project. King is out December 24th and Tu Mil Jaaye is out everywhere now (sic)”.
‘King’ is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24, 2026.
