Bengaluru, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
INDIA Bloc parties in Karnataka will hold a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on November 5 against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President B.K. Hariprasad said on Tuesday.
Addressing a joint press conference at the KPCC office, Hariprasad said the protest would follow the INDIA Bloc demonstration held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1 over the SIR process and Gyanesh Kumar.
He said alliance leaders had decided to organise protests across the country at taluk and block levels. In Karnataka, the agitation would begin with a state-level demonstration in Bengaluru, followed by protests at district and taluk levels.
Hariprasad alleged that the BJP and RSS were undermining democracy by misusing constitutional institutions. He said the agitation would continue until Gyanesh Kumar resigned.
CPI(M) state secretary K. Prakash said the alliance was demanding the scrapping of the SIR process, Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and democratisation of the Chief Election Commissioner’s appointment process. He also called for appointments to be made in accordance with Supreme Court directions and demanded withdrawal of the law granting permanent immunity to the CEC.
Prakash said the INDIA Bloc would intensify and expand its agitation across Karnataka after November 5. He added that all alliance parties would participate in the protest, which he described as an effort to protect democracy and oppose what he termed the BJP’s attempts to establish an authoritarian and communal state.
CPI(M) leader Sathi Sundaresh, Forward Bloc leaders Mahantesh and Shivashankar, Ali, CPI(ML) leader Clifton D’Rozario and KPCC Media and Communications Department Chairman Ramesh Babu were present at the press conference.
