Rapper Badshah has teamed up with celebrated playback singer Shreya Ghoshal for a new romantic single, ‘Mahiya’, featuring actress Avneet Kaur. Describing the collaboration as a meeting of two distinct musical worlds, Badshah said the track brings together their styles to tell a universal love story.
The song marks a new romantic outing for Badshah, who has composed and written the track. Music production has been handled by Hiten, while choreographers Piyush and Shazia have directed its visual presentation.
Badshah said his association with Shreya had been enjoyable during their time together on the sets of Indian Idol, but working with her in the studio offered a different experience. He described ‘Mahiya’ as a blend of longing, love and celebration, adding that it was designed to stay with listeners beyond their first hearing.
The song combines Badshah’s urban musical style with Shreya’s distinctive vocals. Its promotional tagline — “He is chaos, she is magic. This was never supposed to happen” — sets the tone for the romantic narrative.
The music video features a dreamlike visual setting, with futuristic automotive elements and illuminated celestial backdrops.
Shreya said the musical collaboration had been long overdue and praised Badshah for bringing a fresh perspective to the song. She said its contemporary arrangements and emotional intensity would offer listeners a different side of the rapper.
Avneet described the project as a dream come true, saying she had grown up listening to Shreya and followed Badshah’s music for years. She also praised the choreography and said she hoped audiences would connect with the emotions and love story portrayed in the song.
