Chandigarh, November 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced an additional 3 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners, taking the total DA to 53 per cent.

Describing the decision as a Diwali bonanza, the Chief Minister said nearly eight lakh government employees and pensioners across Punjab would benefit from the latest announcement.

Mann said his government had already announced two separate increases of 4 per cent each, amounting to an 8 per cent enhancement in DA.

With the latest 3 per cent increase, the cumulative enhancement announced by the government comes to 11 percentage points, raising the DA rate from 42 per cent to 53 per cent.

DA Increased from 28% in 2022 to 53%

The Chief Minister said that when the Aam Aadmi Party government assumed office in Punjab in 2022, state government employees and pensioners were receiving Dearness Allowance at the rate of 28 per cent.

With the latest decision, the DA rate has reached 53 per cent, representing an increase of 25 percentage points since the formation of the present government.

Mann said the government remained committed to the welfare of its employees and pensioners and had taken successive decisions to enhance their financial benefits.

Revised DA to Be Reflected in December Salaries

According to the Chief Minister’s announcement, the latest decision will be implemented from December 1, 2026, when employees will receive their salaries incorporating the revised DA rate.

The announcement covers government employees as well as pensioners, with the enhanced allowance expected to provide additional financial relief amid rising living costs.

₹363 Crore Benefit from Latest 3% Increase

Mann said the additional 3 per cent DA increase alone would provide a financial benefit of approximately ₹363 crore to government employees and pensioners.

He added that the total financial benefit arising from the government’s DA enhancement decisions would amount to nearly ₹4,000 crore.

The Chief Minister described the decision as part of his government’s efforts to fulfil its commitments towards state employees and pensioners.

The latest announcement follows the earlier decision to increase DA by 8 percentage points through two instalments of 4 per cent each.
