New Delhi, November 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has completed 12 consecutive months without an operational fatality, a milestone Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described as an achievement that “speaks volumes”.

In a post on X, Modi highlighted the force’s record, while CRPF Director General GP Singh congratulated personnel on completing a full year without losing a member in an operational incident.

Singh said the last operational fatality was reported on October 30, 2025. The force had last achieved a comparable period without an operational death 47 years ago, with that earlier stretch ending in January 1979.

The CRPF chief attributed the achievement to the availability of modern equipment, improved training, strategic planning and better post-incident response. He particularly underlined the importance of rapidly evacuating injured personnel to secondary and tertiary medical facilities.

He said the milestone was especially significant given the force’s continued intensive deployment across major operational theatres and its efforts to achieve operational breakthroughs.

“We remain committed to keeping the country peaceful and safe for all its citizens,” Singh said.

The achievement, however, comes amid concerns over suicides among CRPF personnel, which are not classified as operational fatalities.

The National Human Rights Commission recently took suo motu cognisance of a media report stating that 19 CRPF personnel died by suicide between January and May 2026. It issued notices to the Union Home Secretary and the CRPF Director General, seeking detailed reports.

The Commission observed that, if confirmed, the reported deaths raised serious concerns about the right to life of personnel serving in the country’s largest Central Armed Police Force.

According to figures cited in media reports, 281 CRPF personnel died by suicide between 2021 and 2025. The annual figures were 57 in 2021, 43 in 2022, 57 in 2023, 46 in 2024 and 59 in 2025. The 2025 figure was the highest in the five-year period, with approximately 216 of the 281 personnel reportedly on duty.
