New Delhi, November 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra led a party march in Hari Nagar on Sunday, targeting the Congress over its rally at Ramlila Maidan and accusing it of hurting Sikh sentiments by holding the event on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
The BJP leaders said November 1 was a day of mourning for the Sikh community, recalling the massacre of thousands of Sikhs during the 1984 riots. They criticised the Congress for organising a political rally on a date associated with the violence.
In a post on X, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of creating an atmosphere of unrest under the guise of democratic protest. She said the party could not erase its association with the 1984 violence by invoking democracy and alleged that its political activities were affecting Delhi’s business community and traders.
Malhotra also demanded an apology from the Congress to the Sikh community and Delhi’s business community. He claimed that the opposition’s ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign had failed to gain public support and alleged that even workers of opposition parties were not backing the call for the Ramlila Maidan rally.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor claimed the Congress had failed to mobilise the large crowds it had promised for the event. He said the turnout at Ramlila Maidan had fallen short of the party’s projections, describing it as another unsuccessful attempt to revive Rahul Gandhi’s political standing.
The BJP leaders also criticised the opposition’s campaign against alleged electoral irregularities and its objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Congress and other INDIA bloc parties had organised the Ramlila Maidan rally demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities.
