Auckland, October 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh created history on Friday by becoming the first Indian to take 150 wickets in T20 International cricket. He reached the milestone during the fourth match against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland.

Arshdeep achieved the landmark in the 19th over of New Zealand’s innings when he dismissed captain Mitchell Santner. The left-arm pacer bowled a fuller delivery outside off stump, which Santner struck straight to sweeper cover, departing for just five runs.

With this achievement, Arshdeep also became only the ninth player overall to claim 150 wickets in the shortest international format. According to Cricbuzz, he is the fastest bowler to reach the milestone in terms of days since his debut. Having made his T20I debut in November 2022, Arshdeep completed 150 wickets in just 1,577 days.

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga previously held the record, having reached 150 wickets 2,325 days after his debut.

Arshdeep is also the third-fastest bowler and the quickest fast bowler to complete 150 T20I wickets in terms of deliveries bowled. He reached the mark in 2,143 balls, behind only Hasaranga, who took 2,035 balls, and Rashid Khan, who needed 2,098. Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman previously held the record among fast bowlers, reaching 150 wickets in 2,532 deliveries.

Arshdeep also set a new record for the most T20I wickets taken in a calendar year by a player from a full-member nation. Santner’s dismissal was his 40th wicket of the year, surpassing the previous record of 39 wickets held by Josh Little, who achieved the tally in 2022.

Despite Arshdeep finishing with figures of 1-38 and Mayank Yadav taking 3-48, New Zealand posted a record total of 259/7 in Auckland.

Glenn Phillips, arguably the batter of the series so far, smashed 107 off just 49 balls to register his third T20I century. Michael Bracewell also delivered a blistering performance, scoring 65 off 25 deliveries as New Zealand recorded their highest-ever T20I total and the highest score by any team against India in the format.

New Zealand’s total surpassed their previous best of 254/5, scored against Scotland four years ago. It also eclipsed England’s 257/3 against India in Southampton earlier this year, setting a new record for the highest T20I total against India.

The Indian bowlers endured a difficult outing, facing sustained pressure from the New Zealand batters, much like the treatment Indian batters have generally handed the Kiwis during the series.
