The Ambedkar Bhawan being constructed in Tarn Taran at an estimated cost of ₹5.94 crore has reached the final stage, with around 95 per cent of the work completed, Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Affairs Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said on Thursday.
The three-storey facility, spread across one acre with a covered area of approximately 23,120 square feet, is being developed to support skill development, vocational training, educational activities and community engagement.
Dr Baljit Kaur said the remaining construction work would be completed shortly. Once opened to the public, the building is expected to serve as a centre for training programmes, seminars, social awareness campaigns, library services and other activities aimed at empowering marginalised communities.
The ground floor will house vocational training rooms, a teachers’ room, offices for district and tehsil social justice officials, and a multipurpose hall. The first floor will include a conference hall, additional offices, staff rooms, a pantry and a storeroom. The second floor will accommodate a library, record room, guest rooms and office space.
The minister said the facility was intended to promote the ideals of Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar, particularly social justice, equality, education and constitutional values. She described the project as more than an infrastructure development, saying it would help create opportunities for learning, public awareness and social empowerment.
Dr Baljit Kaur said the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was prioritising projects designed to expand opportunities and strengthen inclusive development.
She added that the Ambedkar Bhawan would contribute to social harmony and help carry Babasaheb’s message to future generations, while supporting the government’s broader focus on welfare-oriented development across Punjab.
