Gangster Bhuvnesh Chopra, alias Ashish, 28, the main accused in a high-profile triple murder case reported in 2024, died in Hoshiarpur jail after his health reportedly deteriorated on Monday night. He was shifted to a government hospital for treatment, where he died.

Ashish was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport on March 12, 2026, with the assistance of central agencies, after being deported to India from a Central Asian country. A Look Out Circular and a Red Corner Notice had already been issued against him.

According to available information, international security agencies helped trace his location abroad, following which he was brought back to India. After his arrest, he was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Ashish was wanted in connection with the triple murder that took place on September 2, 2024. The victims were Jaspreet Kaur, 26, her brother Akasdeep Singh, 21, and their cousin Dildeep Singh, 32. Two other relatives were also injured when six motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly fired around 50 bullets at the victims.

Ashish was also suspected of having links with drug smugglers based in Pakistan, and his alleged involvement in a heroin trafficking network had come under investigation.

He was booked in more than 15 cases registered at various police stations under the Arms Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and charges relating to murder and attempted murder.
