Actress Sunainaa has announced plans to initiate criminal and civil proceedings against those responsible for creating and circulating an allegedly morphed AI-generated video depicting her in obscene content.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the actress said her face had been digitally manipulated and superimposed onto explicit material without her consent. She condemned the circulation of the video and said any suggestion that she was associated with the content was false and misleading.
“I am appalled and disgusted by this vile and malicious act, and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” Sunainaa said.
Describing the incident as a violation of her dignity, privacy and identity, the actress said the act amounted to sexual harassment and defamation and constituted a criminal offence under Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Sunainaa also issued a warning to those involved in creating, uploading, sharing, forwarding or reposting the video, asking them to stop the circulation immediately and delete the material from every platform, account, group and device under their control.
She made it clear that her proposed legal action would extend beyond the original creators and publishers to anyone who further circulated the content.
“I will initiate criminal and civil proceedings, without further notice, against every person responsible for creating, publishing or circulating this content. Anyone who shares it further will also be held liable,” she stated.
The actress urged her supporters, the public and the media not to share the video and instead report it wherever it appears online. She also reserved her legal rights and remedies in the matter.
Sunainaa is known for her work in Tamil cinema, including the critically acclaimed film Neerparavai.
