Netflix on Thursday unveiled the trailer of Akka, an epic gangster saga starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte as two powerful women locked in a fierce battle driven by power, legacy and revenge.
Backed by YRF Entertainment and written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, the series revolves around two formidable characters, Bhavani, played by Keerthy Suresh, and Rudra, portrayed by Radhika Apte. Their conflicting ambitions and beliefs set the stage for an intense rivalry.
The ensemble cast also features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar, among others.
Reflecting on her role as Bhavani, Keerthy Suresh said the character is a woman determined to stand by her convictions and protect her legacy, even when faced with difficult choices.
“Bhavani is a woman who knows what she stands for and will go to great lengths to protect her legacy. What makes her interesting is that beneath her strength and authority are choices that are never easy, especially when the stakes are so high. The trailer offers a taste of the world she inhabits and the challenges that come her way,” she said.
Speaking about working with Radhika Apte, Keerthy said the contrasting energies of Bhavani and Rudra add another layer of tension to the narrative. She also expressed her excitement about collaborating with YRF Entertainment and Netflix to bring the story to audiences in India and beyond.
Radhika Apte, who plays Rudra, described her character as fierce and ambitious, unwilling to let her circumstances define her.
“Rudra is someone who refuses to be defined by the circumstances she finds herself in. She is fierce, has her own ambitions, and is willing to challenge the established order, which makes her a fascinating character to explore,” Apte said.
She added that the conflict in Akka extends beyond the struggle for power, exploring the beliefs, loyalties and personal stakes that shape the characters’ choices.
Apte said she enjoyed bringing the contrasting worldviews of Rudra and Bhavani to life alongside Keerthy Suresh, describing their on-screen confrontation as an exciting part of the project.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the collaboration between Netflix and YRF Entertainment, she said she looked forward to audiences experiencing the intensity of the story.
