New Delhi, October 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Punjab on Tuesday and meet the families of people who recently lost their lives after allegedly raising their voices against drug peddlers, as the drug menace becomes a major political flashpoint in the state.

Shah will meet the affected families in Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur during his visit, which comes amid intensifying criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over drug trafficking and drug-related violence.

In a post on X on Sunday, Shah accused the Punjab government of failing to contain the drug problem and alleged that several families had lost their children because of the crisis.

“The AAP government has spared no effort in pushing Punjab into the abyss of drugs, as a result of which numerous families have had to lose their children,” he said.

Announcing his plans to meet the families, Shah said he would interact with those whose relatives had allegedly been killed for speaking out against drug peddlers operating under the AAP government’s patronage.

“The grief these families have endured cannot be expressed in words,” the Home Minister said, expressing confidence that attempts to silence those opposing the drug trade would not succeed.

BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu also welcomed Shah’s visit, saying Punjab needed decisive action and strong leadership to tackle drug abuse and safeguard its younger generation.

In a post on X, the former Union Minister alleged that the AAP government had lost public support before completing its term and urged Punjabis to support the BJP’s efforts to make the state drug-free.

“The AAP Govt in Punjab has lost its mandate much before his completion of term. I appeal to every Punjabi to support Amit Shah Ji and have faith in our collective mission to make Punjab drug-free, once and for all. Let us unite to save Punjab’s youth and reclaim Punjab’s future!” Bittu said.

The BJP has stepped up its attack on the state government over drug trafficking, making the issue a central part of its political campaign in Punjab. The AAP government, meanwhile, has maintained its commitment to fighting the drug menace.

Shah’s visit is his second to Punjab in 20 days. He last visited the state on September 30 to address an anti-drug rally in Jalandhar.

The meetings with the affected families are expected to bring renewed attention to drug-related violence and the political debate over efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in Punjab.
