Jaipur, October 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Rajasthan Congress intensified its protest over the alleged assault on NSUI activist Ritu Barala during a demonstration against “vote theft” in Delhi, with party leaders staging an overnight sit-in at the Jaipur Police Commissionerate and demanding registration of an FIR.

Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, accompanied by senior party leaders and a legal team, reached the Police Commissionerate on Monday evening and remained there through the night along with Congress workers.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also visited the protest site after arriving in Jaipur from Jodhpur, while Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully questioned the state government over the police administration’s refusal to register an FIR.

Dotasra said the Congress would continue its protest until an FIR was registered and announced that party workers from across Rajasthan would gherao the Police Commissionerate on Tuesday.

“What is the BJP government’s problem with delivering justice to a daughter of this state?” Jully asked, asserting that the Congress would not retreat until an FIR was registered in the case.

Earlier, Barala, accompanied by Congress leaders and a legal team, approached the Moti Dungri police station and submitted a written complaint seeking registration of an FIR. The party said no separate FIR was registered following the complaint.

The Congress delegation reached the Police Commissionerate around 6.15 p.m. Dotasra spoke to Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal over the phone and sought registration of a Zero FIR against the accused, saying the protesters would remain at the Commissionerate until their demand was addressed.

Mittal said the alleged incident had taken place in Delhi and that a complaint had already been lodged with the Delhi Police. He said Zero FIRs registered by police in other states had been forwarded to Delhi for investigation.

“Multiple FIRs cannot be registered for the same incident,” Mittal said, adding that the complainants had been informed that their complaint was on record. He said Rajasthan Police would seek information from the Delhi Police and the state police that had registered the Zero FIR to facilitate further investigation.

The overnight protest was attended by MLAs Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi, former Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar, State Women’s Congress President Sarika Singh, War Room Chairman Jaswant Gurjar, Rajendra Yadav, Media Chairperson Swarnim Chaturvedi and Jaipur City Congress President Sunil Sharma.

Dotasra said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also spoken to him and directed him to ensure that an FIR was registered in Jaipur in connection with the case.

The Congress has announced plans to intensify its agitation on Tuesday, maintaining that the alleged assault requires registration of an FIR and action against those responsible.
