Union Health Minister and senior BJP leader J.P. Nadda met veteran party leader Lal Krishna Advani at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday and enquired about his health.
The 98-year-old former Deputy Prime Minister was admitted to the hospital’s pulmonary department at around 7.30 p.m. on Friday with a chest infection. Hospital officials said Advani was stable and under observation by a team of doctors, with medical investigations underway.
Advani has experienced other hospitalisations in recent years. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in May this year for age-related health complications and remained under medical care for a few days before being discharged.
In December 2024, he was also admitted to the intensive care unit of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital for medical management and investigations. He was treated under the supervision of a neurologist, and the hospital had described his condition as stable.
Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, now in Pakistan, Advani is among the BJP’s most prominent leaders and played a major role in the party’s expansion into a national political force.
He served as BJP president on multiple occasions and helped strengthen its organisational network across the country. His 1990 Ram Rath Yatra became a major turning point in Indian politics and contributed to the party’s growing political reach.
Advani served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 in the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also held key portfolios, including Home Affairs, during his political career.
In recognition of his contribution to public life, Advani was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024. He had previously received the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
