Amritsar, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) office-bearers and members on Monday cautioned against treating allegations related to the Sri Anandpur Sahib matter as established facts before the inquiry committee submits its report, saying one-sided statements could affect the fairness of the investigation.

The statement was issued by SGPC Junior Vice President Baldev Singh Kalyan, former president Alwinderpal Singh Pakhoke, executive member Surjit Singh Tugalwal, members Surjit Singh Bhittewad, Advocate Bhagwant Singh Siyalka, Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala, Bawa Singh Gumanpura and Amarjit Singh Bandala in response to what they described as misleading propaganda against Sikh personalities and the SGPC on social media.

They said the SGPC president had constituted an inquiry committee considering the seriousness of the matter, while the police were also investigating an FIR registered in connection with the case. In such circumstances, they said, accepting the version of any one side as the complete truth or reaching conclusions against an individual, institution or office-bearer before the inquiry is completed could prejudice the investigation.

The SGPC representatives said sensitive matters should be examined on the basis of facts and evidence rather than social media narratives or one-sided statements. Any allegation made by an individual, they said, should remain a subject of investigation until its veracity is established.

They maintained that the SGPC’s position was that the truth should emerge through the inquiry report, supported by facts. If any violation was established, appropriate action should be taken in accordance with rules and institutional procedures.

At the same time, they said the SGPC was not in favour of suppressing or ignoring any matter. The institution had a responsibility to conduct a fact-based inquiry into serious allegations and take appropriate action against anyone found responsible.

The SGPC office-bearers also accused Aam Aadmi Party media adviser Baltej Pannu of repeatedly making statements against the Sikh institution and its personalities for political purposes. They appealed to all sides to refrain from politicising the matter and allow the investigation to proceed.

They further defended SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, describing him as a person of integrity and saying his selfless and dedicated services should not be disregarded through allegations made without facts.

The SGPC representatives also said holding protests outside Dhami’s residence could not be justified and urged all concerned to rely on the findings of the inquiry rather than drawing conclusions before the process is complete.
