AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Monday hit back at Akali Dal (Badal) leader Virsa Singh Valtoha, saying he would not use derogatory language against him but would respond to every allegation and question raised in the ongoing controversy.
Reacting to Valtoha’s remarks, Pannu said his upbringing and teachings had taught him to maintain dignity in his language. He also referred to a case registered against him in 2015 during the SAD-BJP government, which he described as false, and said he had been acquitted after fighting the case for nearly four-and-a-half years.
Pannu warned that if Valtoha did not moderate his language, he could disclose details of those he alleged were behind the case and explain what happened at the time.
The AAP leader also questioned Valtoha over allegations concerning a woman from Bahrain and objected to what he described as repeated personal attacks and character assassination of the woman.
“If Virsa Singh Valtoha knew all these details about her, then why was she brought to Punjab and kept in an SGPC sarai for months?” Pannu asked. He also sought explanations regarding allegations that she was provided an SGPC vehicle and two sevadars and that money was transferred to her account.
Pannu further challenged Valtoha’s claim that an audio recording released by him was AI-generated. He said that if there were doubts about the recording’s authenticity, it should be subjected to forensic examination so that the truth could be established.
He also questioned Valtoha’s own statements about his alleged contact with the woman and sought clarification about how she came into contact with him and others and why she was brought to Punjab.
Pannu said the controversy should not become an excuse for attacking a woman’s character. He maintained that facing a case did not give anyone the right to malign her and reiterated his questions about her stay at an SGPC sarai.
He also called for answers from senior Akali leader Sukhbir Singh Badal and SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami regarding the SGPC’s records and decisions concerning the woman.
Pannu said he had so far refrained from responding to every personal remark but could hold another press conference if necessary to place before the public details of the matter and the actions taken at the time.
He also asked Valtoha to respond to questions raised by Rup Kaur Sandhu.
Pannu concluded by accusing Valtoha of repeatedly using abusive and derogatory language and said he should exercise restraint in his public statements.
