Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted another cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of four persons and recovery of 20 kg of heroin, taking the total heroin seizure by the unit to 74 kg in the past week, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rohan, a resident of Baba Jiwan Singh Colony, Amritsar; Deepak Bakhshi of Partap Bazar, Amritsar; Rishabh Kumar of Golden Avenue, Amritsar; and Ishaan Bedi of New Ranjit Pura, Amritsar.
Police also seized two motorcycles allegedly used for transporting the consignment — a black Splendor bearing registration number PB02-BT-3925 and a red Passion Pro bearing registration number PB02-CL-4487.
According to DGP Yadav, preliminary investigation indicates that the module was being operated by a Dubai-based drug smuggler in coordination with associates based in Punjab and smugglers operating from abroad.
The DGP said CI Amritsar had received specific information that operatives linked to the Dubai-based smuggler had collected a large heroin consignment from the Indo-Pak border area near village Rajatal in Tarn Taran district. The consignment had allegedly been sent through drones from across the border.
Acting on the input, CI teams conducted a raid near Dana Mandi, Satlani Sahib Gurudwara in Amritsar, where they intercepted the four accused while they were allegedly preparing to deliver the consignment to another party. The 20 kg heroin was subsequently recovered from their possession.
The latest seizure is the fourth major heroin recovery by CI Amritsar in a week. Earlier, the unit had recovered 27 kg of heroin on September 16, 10 kg on September 18 and 17 kg on September 19.
On September 16, four persons were also arrested and a sophisticated foreign-made .30-bore PX5 pistol along with three cartridges was recovered. On September 18, one person was arrested with 10 kg of heroin, while three persons were arrested with 17 kg of heroin on September 19.
A case, FIR No. 61 dated September 23, 2026, has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
Further investigation is underway to identify the complete network and establish its backward and forward linkages.
