Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh appear to have ended their long-running differences following a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, with Ramdev saying that the issues between them had been resolved.
Ramdev said Singh had developed certain misgivings based on hearsay, comments and video clips, but the concerns were cleared during their meeting. He thanked Singh for meeting him and said the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president expressed respect for sants and Sanatana and held Ramdev’s work for the country in high regard.
The differences between the two had been continuing for several years. Singh had earlier questioned the use of Maharishi Patanjali’s name by Ramdev’s organisations, arguing that more should be done for the sage’s birthplace in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, from where Singh also hails.
The dispute intensified recently over Patanjali products. Singh had publicly questioned the quality of Patanjali ghee and made allegations against the company, following which Patanjali Foods Limited filed a Rs 50-crore defamation suit against him.
Singh had also continued his criticism of Ramdev in recent weeks, while Ramdev maintained that allegations concerning Patanjali products were unfounded. The latest meeting came amid the continuing public exchange between the two.
Their differences had also drawn attention in 2023 when Singh faced allegations of sexual harassment from female wrestlers during his tenure as WFI chief. The wrestlers had demanded his arrest, while Ramdev was reported to have supported their concerns.
With Wednesday’s meeting, Ramdev said the misunderstandings surrounding Singh had been cleared, signalling an end to the prolonged public dispute.
