Delhi Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a cheating case involving jewellery and cash worth around Rs 60 lakh, officials said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Yash Kailash Bulchandani, a resident of Kheda in Gujarat, was arrested during a police operation in Mehsana.
Police said they recovered around 96 grams of melted gold, two gold coins, a gold chain, a diamond set and a mobile phone from his possession.
An FIR was registered at Safdarjung Enclave Police Station on July 17 under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, the complainant came into contact with the accused through social media. He allegedly gained her confidence by presenting himself as an investment expert and subsequently induced her to hand over money and jewellery for investment purposes.
Police said the accused met the complainant in Delhi on July 9 and allegedly fled with her mobile phone, jewellery and a bag containing Rs 14 lakh in cash and a credit card.
Following the complaint, a dedicated police team was constituted to investigate the case. The team comprised Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kumar, Head Constable Bhavani Singh and Constable Abhishek, under the leadership of Inspector Rajneesh Kumar, SHO of Safdarjung Enclave Police Station, and the overall supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvyn Verghese.
During the investigation, the team conducted technical analysis, examined CCTV footage, verified available records and coordinated with concerned agencies and service providers. The information gathered was analysed and corroborated, leading police to identify and trace the accused.
Acting on the developed leads, the team conducted a raid in Mehsana and arrested Bulchandani.
Police said the case has been worked out following the arrest and recovery of the suspected stolen property. Further investigation is underway.
