The Malerkotla Police on Thursday demolished properties allegedly built with proceeds from drug trafficking as part of the Punjab government’s anti-drug campaign, “Yudh Nashian Virudh”.
The action was carried out in Mohalla Bairagiyan Wala, near Sai Baba Ji Mandir, against properties linked to two known drug peddlers, according to the police.
The operation was supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh and executed by SP (D) Ramandeep Singh Bhullar, DSP Manavjit Singh and the local Station House Officer. Police personnel were deployed at the site during the demolition.
One of the accused, Mohammad Iftikhar alias Taru Khan, was booked on September 9 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after police allegedly recovered seven grams of heroin from his possession.
His son, Faisal Khan alias Taru Wala, has also faced multiple drug-related cases. Police said four cases have been registered against him since 2022. These include a case involving 4.5 kg of charas, two cases involving 150 intoxicant pills and another case concerning seven grams of heroin. The latest case was registered earlier this year.
SSP Khakh said the police examined the income records of both accused and found no legitimate source that could explain their ability to acquire or construct the properties that were demolished.
“Anyone thinking of using drug profits to build a home or buy property should know we are watching, and we will act,” Khakh said, stressing that properties allegedly acquired through drug money would not be spared.
He also appealed to residents to share information about drug peddlers operating in the area, assuring them that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
Khakh said the demolition was intended to underline that Punjab’s campaign against drugs extends beyond arrests and also targets the financial gains and properties allegedly generated through narcotics trafficking.
