Actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra has marked the 17th year of bringing Ganpati Bappa home by embracing a paper mache idol, continuing her family’s gradual shift towards more eco-friendly celebrations.
Sharing a video of this year’s festivities, Shilpa said her family had consciously moved from Plaster of Paris to clay over the past decade and had now taken another step by choosing paper mache for their Ganpati idol.
“Our 17th year of welcoming Ganpati Bappa home with faith, love and devotion. Over the last decade, we consciously moved from Plaster of Paris to CLAY, and this year, took another step, our Bappa was made with PAPER MACHE,” she wrote.
The Dhadkan actress acknowledged that choosing more sustainable materials requires additional care and effort, but said it was important both as an expression of devotion and as a responsibility towards the environment.
Shilpa also emphasised the importance of passing these values on to children. This year, her family organised an eco-friendly Ganpati workshop for children, where the youngsters were seen making their own Ganesha idols.
“This year, we celebrated faith with responsibility and held an eco-friendly Ganpati workshop for children, instilling these values that we hope they carry forward,” she wrote.
The video captures Shilpa welcoming Bappa home with husband Raj Kundra and their children, followed by rituals and puja. It also shows the family participating in the visarjan ceremony.
For the immersion, Shilpa wore a traditional Maharashtrian yellow-and-pink saree and joined her family for the final prayers. She was also seen dancing to dhol beats as they bid an emotional farewell to Bappa.
Shilpa and Raj continued their long-standing family tradition by bringing the eco-friendly idol home on September 13. The family performed the visarjan on September 15 with prayers and festive celebrations.
Concluding her message, Shilpa prayed for Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and bless families with happiness, peace and success.
