Television actress Hina Khan has shared her views on the controversy surrounding Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement, saying actors always have the option of opting out of a project if they feel its creative direction could lead to a backlash.
During a recent episode of her talk show “The4POV”, Hina discussed the controversy with her husband Rocky Jaiswal and actors Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla.
Hina said brands can sometimes be firm about their creative choices, leaving actors to decide whether they want to associate themselves with a particular project.
“Sometimes, some brands are very adamant on a certain sort of their creative. They want to do it their way. As an actor, you always have the option of opting out, considering that it may backfire,” she said.
At the same time, Hina defended Kriti against what she described as an excessive reaction from social media users.
She said incidents can sometimes spiral beyond their original context, adding that “no one deserves so much” backlash over a single creative decision.
Hina also clarified that she did not blame either Kriti or the brand, saying both were entitled to their opinions. However, she reiterated that actors should consider the potential consequences before agreeing to a project.
Kriti recently faced criticism over her appearance in a Raksha Bandhan advertisement for jewellery brand GIVA. She wore an off-white ensemble featuring a bralette-style blouse, a cape and a draped skirt.
Some social media users objected to the outfit, arguing that it was inappropriate in the context of Indian traditions. Following the backlash, the advertisement was eventually withdrawn by the brand.
Hina maintained that while actors can make their own choices regarding projects, the subsequent public reaction should also remain proportionate.
