The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday took its ‘Mann De Munaffe’ campaign to households across Punjab, with Cabinet ministers presenting the Bhagwant Singh Mann government’s four-and-a-half-year report card and highlighting what the party described as direct financial benefits from free electricity, healthcare, education and welfare schemes.
AAP Punjab president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora led the campaign in Sunam, while Lal Chand Kataruchak visited households in Bhatoya, Pathankot, Dr Balbir Singh campaigned in Patiala and Barinder Kumar Goyal conducted the campaign in his constituency. Harjot Singh Bains, Harpal Singh Cheema, Ravjot Singh, Mohinder Bhagat, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Hardeep Singh Mundian and Harbhajan Singh ETO also participated in door-to-door outreach in their respective constituencies.
Arora said the party had issued a pamphlet detailing the government’s work over the past 4.5 years, its efforts concerning Punjab’s waters and the financial benefits claimed to be reaching households.
According to calculations cited by Arora from the pamphlet, an average family could receive direct benefits of up to Rs 1.82 lakh annually. He attributed around Rs 18,000 in annual savings to 300 units of free electricity and Rs 24,000 to free bus travel for women. He also cited monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 or Rs 1,500 for women and healthcare services through Aam Aadmi Clinics.
Arora also criticised previous Congress and Akali-BJP governments and said AAP was placing its performance before voters for comparison. He said the party would soon launch a membership drive.
In Bhatoya, Kataruchak claimed that free electricity benefits and the government’s anti-drug measures would be at risk if Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal or the BJP returned to power. He also distributed pamphlets outlining the government’s schemes.
In Patiala, Balbir Singh interacted with residents and discussed the government’s welfare facilities and their claimed economic impact. According to the party, residents expressed satisfaction with the services and thanked the government.
Goyal also presented the government’s report card to residents and distributed health cards providing coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh to several families.
AAP leaders said people warmly received them during the campaign and shared experiences of reduced household expenditure and improved access to public services.
The campaign follows Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s launch of the party’s door-to-door election outreach from Dhuri a few days ago. Mann had positioned ‘Mann De Munaffe’ as a central theme of the campaign and said free electricity, healthcare, education and the ‘Maavan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojana’ together provided families with annual benefits of up to Rs 1.82 lakh.
During his Dhuri campaign, Mann also highlighted AAP’s claims regarding canal water for agriculture, daytime power supply, government schools, Aam Aadmi Clinics, free treatment coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh, pensions and other welfare measures.
The Chief Minister urged voters not to support Congress, the Akali Dal or the BJP, alleging that these parties would discontinue several of the schemes introduced by his government. He also alleged that previous governments had been associated with corruption, drugs, unemployment and poor public services, while defending his own administration against corruption allegations.
Mann further alleged that an understanding between the BJP and Akali Dal involved issues concerning farm laws, Punjab’s river waters, Chandigarh and Panjab University. These were presented as claims in the AAP campaign material.
The Chief Minister also accused previous political establishments of controlling sectors such as sand, liquor, cable and transport, while asserting that his government had redirected financial benefits towards ordinary people.
