Actor Vivek Oberoi has recalled how he once intervened to stop his childhood friend and choreographer Bosco Martis from getting married at the age of 19, sharing an interesting anecdote from their younger days during a recent podcast appearance.
The Masti actor made the revelation on Bosco Caesar’s podcast Dance & Masti, where the two revisited their school days, early struggles and experiences before establishing themselves in the entertainment industry.
Oberoi revealed that he and Bosco Martis attended the same school and had known each other long before gaining recognition in their respective professions. Recalling one of Bosco’s plans as a teenager, he said the choreographer had been serious about marrying a girl when he was just 19.
According to the anecdote shared during the conversation, Bosco had devised an unconventional plan to get around the legal age requirement for marriage. He intended to have an older man sign the marriage registration documents on his behalf, with the idea of formally marrying the woman again after turning 21.
However, Oberoi stepped in and persuaded his friend to abandon the plan. The revelation brought laughter during the podcast as the two friends reflected on their youthful decisions and how their perspectives had evolved over the years.
Oberoi also spoke about witnessing Bosco Caesar and Bosco Martis struggle to establish themselves as choreographers without significant industry backing. Their conversation offered insights into their longstanding friendship and the challenges they encountered during their early careers.
Bosco Martis, meanwhile, recalled an interaction with Oberoi during the early phase of the actor’s career, when films such as Company and Saathiya had brought him widespread recognition.
Bosco said he had contacted Oberoi after a long gap to discuss the possibility of choreographing a song featuring the actor. Although Oberoi agreed to the proposal, he asked Bosco to develop the creative concept and provide a detailed breakdown of the project.
Recalling his initial reaction, Bosco said he had felt hurt by what he perceived as an attitude in Oberoi’s response. However, with time, he came to understand the reasoning behind the actor’s approach.
“I called Vivek during this period, after a very long time. I said, ‘Vivek, I want to do a song with you.’ You said, ‘Yes, we should definitely do it,’ and then you added, ‘Work out the creatives and give me a breakdown,’” Bosco recalled.
He added that he initially questioned why Oberoi had spoken to him in that manner but later recognised the importance of being adequately prepared when approaching an established actor with a professional proposal.
“I am going to a star who has worked so hard to reach a certain level. I am a choreographer, and if I am approaching a star, I have to be prepared about how I can position him,” Bosco said.
The conversation highlighted the personal and professional experiences that have shaped the friendship between Oberoi and Bosco Martis, offering a glimpse into their lives before they achieved prominence in the entertainment industry.
