Actress Urvashi Rautela’s team has claimed that it is pursuing legal action against a Los Angeles-based artificial intelligence company for allegedly using her name, images and videos without authorisation.
In a statement, the actress’s team alleged that the company had used Rautela’s identity and content without obtaining her permission. The team said it was pursuing appropriate legal remedies, with damages currently being assessed at Rs 7,000 crore.
Emphasising the need for consent in the commercial use of an individual’s identity, the team said that any use of Rautela’s name, image or likeness for business purposes must be backed by proper authorisation.
In an exclusive statement shared with IANS, the team said, “Their business has allegedly generated billions of dollars in value by using Urvashi’s name, images and videos without authorization. We are pursuing appropriate legal remedies, including damages currently being assessed at ₹7,000 crore against the Los Angeles-based company. Build your AI (artificial intelligence) company. Build your brand. But keep Urvashi’s name out of your business unless you have permission. Team Urvashi Rautela.”
The team also shared a note on Instagram reiterating its allegations and the proposed legal action, stating that the company had allegedly generated billions of dollars in value through the unauthorised use of the actress’s name, images and videos.
The issue of AI-generated content and the unauthorised use of public figures’ identities has also drawn attention from other actors.
Recently, actor Salman Khan raised concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence during an episode of Bigg Boss 20. Speaking about the growing capabilities of the technology, Khan highlighted the risks associated with AI-generated videos and voice dubbing being used without consent.
“Someone made an AI video, or did AI voice dubbing; that is wrong. AI has progressed so much that it’s very scary. It’s a very serious thing. You said something, and someone used AI to edit it and kisi ko gali bakdi. You know what they’re doing? AI videos bana rahe hain yeh. Bahut saare logon ke. And even I am there in the AI video,” the Sultan actor said.
Rautela’s team has reiterated that commercial use of the actress’s identity requires permission, as concerns over the unauthorised use of images, videos and voices through AI continue to surface.
