Indian Railways will conduct a month-long ticket-checking drive across the Central Railway network from October 1 to 31, focusing on concession tickets, reservation quotas, railway passes and group bookings, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
During the drive, ticket-checking staff will verify passengers’ eligibility for concessions and quota-based travel and check their original identity documents. The inspections will be carried out at railway stations as well as on local trains.
Central Railway has appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets, carry all required documents and cooperate with ticket-checking personnel to ensure smooth journeys.
Ticket-checking staff may use the TTE App, wherever necessary, to verify the authenticity of tickets, including unreserved tickets.
Passengers travelling on concession tickets or under specified reservation quotas must carry prescribed original identity proof to establish their eligibility. Acceptable documents include Aadhaar, passport, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID, government-issued photo ID, student ID, bank passbook with photograph and a bank credit card with a laminated photograph.
Passengers have been advised to carry the original documents, as photocopies or images stored on mobile phones may not be accepted as substitutes.
Those travelling with an E-Pass or Privilege Ticket Order (PTO) must also carry the prescribed original identity proof. They must ensure that their E-Pass or PTO has been duly exchanged or converted into the required Authority to Travel before commencing their journey.
Passengers travelling under group reservations will also be required to produce documents establishing their eligibility. For reservations covering more than one passenger, at least one person in the group must carry the required original identity proof.
Passengers who fail to establish their eligibility or produce the prescribed documents may face action under applicable railway rules and could be charged a higher excess fare.
The minimum penalty for travelling without a ticket or in an unauthorised manner was increased from Rs 250 to Rs 500 with effect from June 20, 2026, following changes under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026.
