Choreographer and television personality Terence Lewis is set to make his acting debut with Aaj Ka Mahishasur, a film he says explores the harsh realities of contemporary society and the evils that often go unnoticed within and around us.
In a statement shared with IANS, Lewis said the film’s thought-provoking storyline was a key reason he chose the project. He explained that the narrative moves beyond the traditional understanding of Mahishasur to examine social evils and the darker aspects of human nature.
“Making my film debut with Aaj Ka Mahishasur is a very special experience for me. What drew me to this film is its intriguing and thought-provoking story. It goes beyond what we traditionally associate with Mahishasur and explores the harsh realities of the society we live in today. There are evils around us, but there are also those within us that we often choose to ignore. Being part of a story that has something meaningful to say makes this debut even more special for me,” Lewis said.
The makers unveiled the film’s first look and devotional song Jagdambe Rani during Navratri. The team also visited Mumbai’s Mumba Devi Temple to present the poster and seek blessings.
Produced by Gaurang Bhaskar and directed by Dhiraj Kumarr, Aaj Ka Mahishasur features an ensemble cast comprising Lewis, Padmini Kolhapure, Chandan Roy, known for his role in the series Panchayat, and Ayeesha Aiman.
The devotional track has been composed by Amol-Abhishek, with lyrics by Abhishek Talented and vocals by Dev Negi and Divya Kumar.
Drawing on the symbolism of Mahishasur, the film aims to encourage audiences to reflect on the evils prevalent in society and confront those that are often overlooked.
Lewis has established himself as a dancer, choreographer and television judge. His film choreography credits include Lagaan, Jhankaar Beats and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. His work on Lagaan earned him the American Choreography Award in 2002.
On television, he has served as a judge on popular dance reality shows, including Dance India Dance, Nach Baliye and India’s Best Dancer. With Aaj Ka Mahishasur, Lewis is now stepping into a new phase of his career as an actor.
