Jammu, October 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Four terrorists, including a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, were killed in a landmine explosion while allegedly attempting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district across the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday, officials said.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Faizan, described as a top LeT commander, and Mohammad Ishtiyaq, Mohammad Waqas and Mohammad Asim. Officials said all four were residents of Mandla, Madarpur, in Hajira tehsil of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

According to officials, the group was attempting to cross the LoC in the Nangi Takri area of the Krishna Ghati sector when the terrorists triggered a landmine late in the afternoon. The explosion killed all four on the spot.

The incident took place in the Satwal-Naki/Nangi Takri area, described as a traditional infiltration route. The area has a fortified forward minefield forming part of the Indian Army’s anti-infiltration defences.

Security has been tightened along the border following the explosion. Surveillance has been intensified, while patrols and ambush teams have been deployed to check the surrounding area and rule out any further infiltration attempts.

The incident comes amid concerns over the impact of heavy rainfall on landmines in forward areas. Officials said rain can wash away topsoil, potentially exposing or shifting older mines.

Days before Monday’s explosion, the Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad had located and defused five weathered landmines exposed near the border fence in the neighbouring Mendhar sector.

The Poonch and Rajouri districts, south of the Pir Panjal range, have rugged terrain, dense forests and seasonal streams that can complicate border surveillance. Infiltration routes in the region have historically been used by cross-border operatives attempting to enter Indian territory from launch areas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Security agencies are continuing to monitor the region as part of efforts to prevent further infiltration.
