Trump Denies Role in FBI Probe as Agents Search Ilhan Omar’s Washington Home

Washington, October 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US President Donald Trump has denied any involvement in the federal investigation into Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar after agents searched her Washington residence, triggering accusations from senior Democrats that the administration was using law enforcement to target political opponents ahead of the November midterm elections.

Speaking to reporters before leaving the White House for Ohio, Trump said the investigation was being handled by the Department of Justice (DOJ), while launching a personal attack on the Minnesota lawmaker.

“I’ve always found them to be totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me,” Trump said when asked about the investigation.

Describing Omar as “a terrible person” and “just a complainer”, Trump also criticised her comments on the US Constitution. He reiterated that the matter was for the Justice Department to handle and insisted he had no role in the probe.

The search was carried out by agents from Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Justice Department confirmed that federal agents executed a judicially authorised search warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed the precise nature of the investigation or announced any criminal charges against Omar.

CBS News reported that the inquiry concerned immigration documents dating back to Omar’s childhood, including paperwork completed by her late father when the family arrived in the United States.

Omar rejected any suggestion of wrongdoing. Her office described the search as an abuse of federal law enforcement powers and accused the administration of pursuing politically motivated investigations to intimidate the congresswoman.

The search prompted a sharp response from Representative Jamie Raskin, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, who questioned its timing and justification.

Raskin alleged that federal agents had searched a sitting congresswoman’s home as part of a campaign of political retribution rather than to investigate a genuine crime or threat.

He also accused the Justice Department of violating its policies governing politically sensitive investigative actions close to elections, noting that the search took place just 22 days before the November 3 congressional polls.

Raskin said House Judiciary Committee Democrats would demand transparency and accountability regarding who authorised the search and who carried it out.

The allegation of political interference has not been independently established. The existence of a judicially authorised warrant does not, by itself, determine whether the investigation was politically motivated.

The controversy comes as Republicans and Democrats prepare to contest control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 elections.

Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, was first elected to Congress in 2018. Born in Somalia, she arrived in the United States as a refugee and later became a US citizen. She is among the first Muslim women elected to Congress and has frequently clashed with Trump over immigration, foreign policy and the administration’s treatment of minority communities.
