New Delhi, October 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of allegedly manhandling a pregnant female journalist during the INDIA Bloc’s march on Monday. The Congress rejected the charge, accusing the BJP of scripting narratives to divert attention from allegations over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, who met the journalist at a hospital, claimed she told him that Rahul Gandhi had shoved her to the ground while she was covering the protest. He alleged that no Congress worker helped her and accused Gandhi of disrespecting women and democracy.

Congress MP Jebi Mather dismissed the allegations, saying Rahul Gandhi respects women and had been protecting young leader Neha Bora and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi during the protest. She accused the BJP of creating stories because it could not counter the Opposition’s concerns over SIR.

Mather also alleged that women protesters had been detained and that videos showing women being attacked during the protests were being removed from social media platform Meta. She claimed the government was exerting influence over media content and social media platforms.

Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat said the BJP had been rattled by the large public turnout at Monday’s march. RJD MLA Bhai Virendra also defended Rahul Gandhi, rejecting the allegations against him.
