Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced an extended 28-player squad for a four-day red-ball training camp as the Proteas Women begin preparations for a busy home summer featuring Test matches against India and Australia.
The camp will be held at Irene Cricket Club in Centurion from September 27 to 30 and is the first of two specialised sessions aimed at preparing the team for its four-day Test against India at St George’s Park in Gqeberha from December 9 to 12.
South Africa will then face Australia in a marquee Test at Potchefstroom in March next year.
The squad includes nationally contracted players, Emerging Academy recruits and leading performers from domestic cricket, alongside Test-capped players such as captain Laura Wolvaardt, Suné Luus, Nadine de Klerk and Anneke Bosch. Marizanne Kapp is not part of the announced camp squad.
Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi said the players and coaching staff were looking forward to returning to the longer format.
“This is another great chapter for the Proteas Women as a group. Preparing for and playing red-ball cricket is something that excites us as players and coaches,” Mashimbyi said.
He added that the wider squad was selected to create a strong pool of players equipped with the skills and mindset required for red-ball cricket.
The coach also said the camp would provide an opportunity to strengthen team culture while developing technical and tactical aspects that could benefit the side across formats.
The first camp will focus primarily on Test-specific skills, while the second session will feature a training match to put those skills into practice.
