Odisha floods remain grim as over 2.7 lakh people affected, 95,206 evacuated

Bhubaneswar, August 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The flood situation in Odisha remained grim on Saturday, with more than 2.7 lakh people affected across six districts even as water levels in some major rivers began to recede.

Several areas continued to remain inundated, while incessant rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system led to fresh waterlogging in parts of the state.

According to the latest State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) report issued under the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), flooding has affected 52 blocks, 227 gram panchayats and 503 villages across six districts, impacting around 2,70,212 people.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the respective District Emergency Operation Centres, with Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendujhar among the districts under particular watch.

As many as 95,206 people have been evacuated and shifted to 226 relief shelters, where authorities are providing cooked and hygienic food, safe drinking water, sanitation, lighting and medical assistance.

A total of 118 response teams have been deployed for evacuation, rescue, relief and emergency operations. These include 36 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force teams, seven NDRF teams, 35 Fire and Emergency Services teams and 40 Police, Civil Defence and local teams. Additional teams remain on standby for deployment based on requirements.

Health services remain a key priority, with 62 medical teams deployed in affected areas. Stocks of medicines, ORS, IV fluids and anti-snake venom are being maintained.

For livestock, 31 veterinary and rapid response teams have been deployed and 22 veterinary camps organised. So far, 51 animals have been treated or vaccinated, while 357.2 metric tonnes of cattle feed has been supplied.

The SRC said response teams and departments were working round the clock to ensure timely delivery of relief, food, drinking water, medical assistance and other essentials.

The authorities said the coordinated response would remain focused on protecting lives, assisting affected families and facilitating a safe return to normalcy.
